Every year the Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila’s College of Information Technology Education celebrates its founding anniversary with a lot of events and activities that showcase the talents of the students in the field of Information Technology. Every year the college have this event called the ITE Roadshow (Information Technology Education Roadshow) wherein students from the college and other invited university showcase their works in the field of Information Technology.

Our main purpose was to let our fellow students learn more about Mozilla and the Firefox Student Ambassadors in our campus. We also had a live demonstration of the Firefox OS just in case they were interested. Our booth was located at the Study Area in Arlegui Campus, so students pass by us every hour. Half were coming in for their next class and the other half were going outside to enjoy their break time or eat or just want to visit the roadshow to check out the projects of the students.

The students who dropped by our booth would ask what is FSA and Firefox OS. As the one manning the booth we introduce to them the Firefox Student Ambassadors Program and then introduce Firefox OS. We encourage them sign-up for the TIP-Manila FSA if they want to and willing to contribute in our club and the community, in return of signing up for the FSA Program we gave them swags like ballers, stickers, pins and tattoo.

Students who huddle up to learn more about Firefox OS

Students are very surprised to know that Firefox OS is real. Unlike Android and iOS, Firefox OS is still new in the Philippines since Firefox OS is not yet available in the country. And for now, only a few phones have it built-in. Some mobile devices from Geeksphone, ZTE, and Alcatel already use Firefox OS. Its interface is similar to that of Android, but the programming languages used in both mobile operating systems are different. Android uses Java while in the other hand, Firefox OS uses HTML5, CSS and JavaScript.

We met a lot of new students who are interested in joining the FSA and in fact non-computer studies major also love to join the TIP-Manila FSA. It is a single day event but we had tons of fun meeting and talking to students in our campus. This also gave us a chance to learn more from other students who are knowledgeable about the web. And at the end of the day we are happy to say that we have hundreds of sign-ups and a lot of knowledge to share with others. It was a very good and heart-fulfilling experience indeed.
